How do you cancel your mobile phone contract?

How do you cancel your mobile phone contract?

If you have decided to take the plunge and move networks or you have had enough of mobile contracts and you just want to cancel you will need to establish a few facts before you contact your provider.

Are you in or out of contract?

You need to know if you are in contract or out of contract. If you are in contract you will also need to know where you are in the contract, at the beginning middle or end?

If you have only just signed and are less than 14 days into the contract great news, contact whoever you connected with and tell them you wish to cancel (you don’t even have to give them a reason) send back the sim/ handset or both and this will cancel the agreement. You will not get to keep the number issued in this scenario and will probably have to pay for the minutes, data and text you have used.

If you have passed the 14 days and wish to cancel you should contact the network and tell them you wish to cancel, you will almost certainly have to give a minimum of 30 days notice. This is where it gets a little bit complicated, if you signed up for a 30 day rolling contract and give 30 days notice you contract will end in 30 days. If you signed up for a 12, 18, 24 or even longer contract and you give 30 days notice, 30 days or less from the end of your contract  your contract will end in … 30 days! If you have more than 30 days left of your contract to run you will have to pay the remainder of your contract in full for the contract to end. For example, if you are in a 24 month contract at £30.00 per month and you are at month 20 and you give notice you will get a final bill for £120.00, 4 months at £30.00. It is very important that you pay this final bill quickly you will not have 4 months to pay, the final amount will be due for payment by the date given on the bill.

The number you need to contact each network are below, the process for moving networks and keeping your number is changing have a look at our guide mobile network PAC code changes.
