The Obamas Are Starting A Podcast On Spotify

Fresh off the back of President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama’s partnership with Netflix to produce original TV shows, the power couple have now announced they’ll be teaming up with Spotify to make podcasts.

Under their Higher Ground production company, President and Mrs Obama will develop and produce podcasts, appearing themselves on some episodes, and covering a wide range of topics. The podcasts will be available globally, exclusively on Spotify. It’s no secret that Spotify is betting big on podcasts to compliment their already-extensive music catalogue.

As more and more people get their entertainment from podcasts, it’s a move which, when combined with their Netflix content, will reach a much bigger audience than just video alone.

“We’ve always believed in the value of entertaining, thought-provoking conversation,” President Obama said in the official press release. “It helps us build connections with each other and open ourselves up to new ideas. We’re excited about Higher Ground Audio because podcasts offer an extraordinary opportunity to foster productive dialogue, make people smile and make people think, and, hopefully, bring us all a little closer together.”

“We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to amplify voices that are too often ignored or silenced altogether, and through Spotify, we can share those stories with the world,” Michelle Obama said. “Our hope is that through compelling, inspirational storytelling, Higher Ground Audio will not only produce engaging podcasts, but help people connect emotionally and open up their minds—and their hearts.”

A release date for the first podcast episode is still to be confirmed but the deal is a multi-year agreement which means there lots of new audio content for your daily commute to work.
