The Lowdown on the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active

Samsung-Galaxy-S4-Active

The Samsung Galaxy S4 Active has been specifically designed for those who enjoy the great outdoors but don’t want to have to worry about their phone being accidentally damaged or getting wet.

Recently launched in the UK, the S4 Active is essentially a toughened up version of the Galaxy S4 with a few minor variations. Its specially sealed design makes it completely dust-proof and waterproof for up to 30 minutes in depths of less than 1 metre, and the S4 Active camera even has an ‘Aqua Mode’ so you can take photos and record video underwater.

Design-wise, the S4 Active is very similar to the S4 but due to the robust casing, it is a bit beefier than the S4 and weighs in at a shade over 150 grams. It’s still pretty slim line though measuring just 9.1mm thick. It features a super hi-res Full HD 5-inch screen with 441ppi (1080 x 1920 pixels) and comes with Gorilla Glass 2 which is strengthened to weather bumps and knocks. Despite its toughness, the S4 Active touchscreen can be used even when you’re wearing gloves as it’s been designed to incorporate ‘Glove Touch’. The S4 Active handset can also be controlled using Samsung’s new Air Gesture and Smart Scroll for some touch-free navigation.

The S4 Active has an 8-megapixel rear facing camera and a 2-megapixel front facing camera and comes with an LED flash and autofocus. It shares many of the same features as the Galaxy S4 which include Drama Shot and Sound & Shot to get the best quality photos and videos.

The S4 Active runs on the latest Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean operating system and is powered by an impressive 1.9GHz quad-core processor. It also has a whopping 2600mAh removable battery which gives it up to 15 hours of talk time or 8 hours of internet browsing or 320 hours on standby. Storage wise, the S4 Active comes with a 16GB memory which can be expanded up to 64GB with a MicroSD card.
