Our HTC Desire 816 Review

HTC-Desire-816

If you’re considering a smartphone with a larger screen which offers great specs, a decent camera and at a competitive price then the HTC Desire 816 is well worth checking out. A fantastic mid-range mobile phone from HTC, the Desire 816 packs a lot in for the money. Want to find out more – then read our HTC Desire 816 review.

The HTC Desire 816 boasts a large 5.5-inch 720 x 1280 resolution Super LCD2 screen which offers a decent resolution 267 pixels per inch. It sports a polycarbonate plastic case with a glossy finish and an appealing design with curved corners and a lightweight build.

Despite the size of the display, the Desire 816 handset is a slim 8mm in depth and weighs only 165 grams. Available in 6 colours, the 816 comes in green, red, blue, black, white and grey. The large screen, great colour contrast and viewing angles make it ideal for watching films and videos, surfing the net and playing games as well, of course, as making calls and sending messages and emails. The 816, like the HTC One M8, also features HTC’s brilliant BoomSound stereo speakers which are arguably the best smartphone speakers out there.

The Desire 816 comes with similar camera technology to the HTC One Mini 2 – an impressive 13-megapixel snapper on the rear and a 5-megapixel camera on the front. Both cameras can shoot video in Full HD 1080p resolution and the main camera on the rear has an LED flash and HDR. The generous 5-megapixel front facing camera is perfect for taking selfies particularly thanks to its selfie countdown timer and selection of filters, special effects and funky frames.

Running on Android KitKat 4.4.2, the HTC Desire 816 has HTC’s latest Sense 6 user interface which includes the revamped BinkFeed which brings together social media updates, appointments, and news feeds which are customisable. Sense 6 also includes a selection of useful apps including sat nav, Polaris Office 5 and HTC’s own excellent music app.

Powered by a more than adequate (speed wise) 1.6GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor, the Desire 816 has a decent 1.5GB of RAM and 8GB of onboard memory which can be expanded up to a whopping 128GB with a microSD card. The 2600mAh battery gives an impressive 21 hours of talk time.
