EE have today launched their new 5G network in the UK, plus a load of new 5G-compatible devices.
On May 30 2019, EE switched on its 5G network, kicking off a network revolution that will bring faster and more reliable mobile connectivity to the UK. We knew 5G was coming to EE this year, but after Vodafone recently confirmed they were launching in July, wondered if EE were going to be beaten to being the first network to launch the service. The May launch date means EE are indeed the UK’s first 5G network provider, as they were with 4G.
5G (or 5GEE as EE like to call it) has been switched on in London, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Belfast, Birmingham and Manchester on Thursday, May 30. The company has confirmed they’ll then be adding 100+ new 5G sites to the network every month, with Bristol, Coventry, Leicester, Nottingham, Sheffield, Liverpool, Hull, Leeds, Newcastle and Glasgow receiving 5G in 2019.
In 2020, Aberdeen, Bournemouth, Brighton, Cambridge, Dundee, Exeter, Ipswich, Norwich, Plymouth and York are all on the list to receive the service.
You need a 5G-compatible device to benefit from the new network, and EE have announced a pretty strong line-up for the launch, which includes the following:
- OnePlus 7 Pro 5G (exclusive to EE)
- Samsung Galaxy S10 5G
- Oppo Reno 5G (exclusive to EE)
- LG V50 ThinQ
- 5GEE Home Router
- 5GEE WiFi Device
EE have a range of new 5G price plans lined up for the launch and we have full details here at Direct Mobiles, as well as a round-up of the very best 5G deals in the market. The new 5G Smart Plans are similar to the current 4G Smart Plans in that they include additional entertainment benefits that can be added or removed as you need.
