The Lowdown on the New Blackberry Q5

Blackberry_Q5Launched in the summer of 2013, the Blackberry Q5 is the latest of the BlackBerry handsets to feature the BlackBerry 10 operating system. The Q5 also sports a QWERTY keyboard as well as a full touchscreen like the Q10. The Q5 is being pitched as a lower spec, lower cost alternative to its sibling and offers a good value mid-range handset.  Here’s all you need to know about it.

With a slightly smaller screen than the Q10, the Q5 comes with a 3.1-inch, 329ppi LCD touchscreen. It comes in a choice of black or white and has 8GB of internal storage which can be expanded up to an impressive 64GB with a microSD memory card and 2GB of RAM. It packs in a pretty powerful 2180mAH (non-removable) battery which gives it over 12 hours of talk time and has a dual-core 1.2GHz Snapdragon processor.

The main rear camera is 5-megapixel and has some decent features including a 5x digital zoom, auto-focus, image stabilisation and 1080p video recording. The Time Shift mode is ideal for creating a good quality image by being able to pick and choose the best bits from an almost mini-film of your photo.

The good news is that many of the features of the more expensive Blackberry Q10 also come with the Q5. The popular BBM (BlackBerry Messenger) has had a revamp and can be used for normal chat or for video chat and you can now share photos, your browser screen, your camera view or even documents using the new Screen Share feature. The Q5 also comes with BlackBerry Hub which is accessed from any app on your phone so you can keep a close eye on and quickly respond to new messages, social media updates and emails all from one place.

The BlackBerry Q5 similar to the Q10 also has BlackBerry Balance which gives you two different profiles so you can keep your business and personal emails, apps and documents completely separate from each other.
