Samsung Galaxy A53 vs A52 | What’s The Difference?

Let’s compare the two.

Samsung announced the new Galaxy A53 in March, and it goes on sale on April 1. The new A53 5G is the follow-up to the best-selling and very well reviewed, Samsung Galaxy A52/A52s. We’ve compared the two in terms of key features to see how the A53 improves on the previous A52 model, as well as looked at it alongside the A52s (which is similar to the A52)

Display

  • Galaxy A53 5G: 6.5-inch, Super AMOLED, Full HD+, 120Hz
  • Galaxy A52 5G/A52s 5G: 6.5-inch, Super AMOLED, Full HD+, 120Hz
  • Galaxy A52: 6.5-inch, Super AMOLED, Full HD+, 90Hz

The Samsung Galaxy A53 5G sports a 6.5-inch Super AMOLED Full HD+ display, which is the same screen as that found on the Galaxy A52 5G and Galaxy A52s 5G.

The displays all have a 120Hz refresh rate which makes scrolling super smooth.  The older Galaxy A52 model without 5G has a 6.5-inch Full HD+ display too, but a 90Hz refresh rate.

Processor & RAM

  • Galaxy A53 5G: Exynos 12980, 6GB RAM, 128GB storage, 5000mAh
  • Galaxy A52 5G: Qualcomm SD750G, 5G, 6/8GB RAM, 128/256GB storage, 4500mAh
  • Galaxy A52s 5G: Qualcomm SD778G, 5G, 6/8GB RAM, 128/256GB storage, 4500mAh
  • Galaxy A52: Qualcomm SD720G, LTE, 4/6/8GB RAM, 128/256GB storage, 4500mAh

The Samsung Galaxy A53 5G is powered by the Exynos 1280 chip, plus 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. MicroSD cards up to 1TB are supported for storage expansion.

The new A53 support 5G just like the A52 5G and A52s 5G.

The A52 5G and A52s 5G are powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 778G and 750G respectively, and they both come with 6GB or 8GB of RAM and 128GB or 256GB of storage. The standard Galaxy A52 runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G with a choice of 4GB, 6GB or 8GB of RAM and 128GB or 256GB storage.

Battery

The Galaxy A53 5G has a 5000mAh battery, which supports 25W fast charging. The A52 5G and A52s 5G both have a 4500mAh battery, meaning the newer model gives you a bit more juice each day.

None of the models support wireless charging, that feature is reserved for Samsung’s flagship S-Series of phones.

Design

  • Galaxy A53 5G: 159.9 x 74.7 x 8.1mm, 189g
  • Galaxy A52 devices: 159.9 x 75.1 x 8.4mm, 189g

The Samsung Galaxy A53 5G looks pretty much identical to the A52 and the overall weight and size are more or less the same.  That’s not a bad thing. The Galaxy A53 5G has a slightly redesigned camera housing compared to the Galaxy A52, with the edges blending into the back of the phone.

Colours have been refreshed for the A53 too. Both models are available in black, white and blue, but the A53 adds a new peach option (the A52 was available in violet).

On the front of the phones, both models feature a punch hole camera at the top of the display.

The A52 range and A53 5G are IP67 water and dust resistant.

Round up

As you can see, the Samsung Galaxy A53 5G, isn’t a complete overhaul versus the A52, more of an upgrade to keep it fresh for 2022 and beyond.  The design has been improved slightly, and it’s been given the obligatory processor and battery upgrade, but that’s pretty much it.

If you’re already rocking the A52 5G or A52s 5G, the new A53 isn’t going to make a huge amount of difference, but if you’re just upgrading, then out of the two, the A53 is going to be the better option, although keep an eye out for A52s 5G price drops as the model starts being phased out.
