The Lowdown on the Sony Xperia Z2

Just a little over 6 months ago, Sony launched their Xperia Z1 smartphone which proved to be extremely popular and very successful for Sony’s Mobile Phone division. So much so that at last week’s annual Mobile World Convention, Sony unveiled their newest flagship smartphone, the Sony Xperia Z2.

Following in the footsteps of the Xperia Z1, the Xperia Z2 is also a high-spec premium smartphone with some exciting new additional features. Sony have used the latest technology to take the specifications of the Z1 that much further so the Z2 offers an enhanced display, camera, video, audio sound and new entertainment features. It also looks the part with a classy aluminium and glass design which measures just 8.2mm in depth and it’s also robust thanks to it being both waterproof and dust resistant.

The Sony Xperia Z2 has a slightly bigger screen than the Z1, 5.2-inches compared to 5.0-inches and comes with Sony’s sharpest and most colourful smartphone display which boasts a resolution of 424 pixels per inch. Sony have also got a world’s first with the Z2 as it’s the first smartphone to come with digital noise-cancelling technology, up to 98% of background noise will be eliminated with the in-ear, noise-cancelling headset.

The Xperia Z2 also uses Sony’s latest smartphone camera technology. The main rear-facing 20.7-megapixel camera can film video in 4k resolution which gives you as much as 4 times as much detail as full HD. The rear camera also features a ‘G Lens’ and a CMOS image sensor and there are some excellent new camera apps which can improve your photos and video footage further such as SteadyShot, Timeshift Video and Movie Creator.

Sony have revamped the entertainment side of the Xperia Z2 with access to some of the big Sony blockbuster films and exclusive film content. The Z2 comes with the famous Walkman app which now streams more than 25 million songs as well as countless films and of course there’s the Sony PlayStation app which will is always popular with gamers.

The Z2 is powered by a Snapdragon quad-core 2.3GHz processor and a huge 3200mAh battery which will provide up to 19 hours of talk time on 3G. The Xperia Z2 comes with 16GB of built-in memory and a microSD slot which gives you the option to increase it up to 64GB and a very decent 3GB of RAM.
