The Lowdown on the Sony Experia Z

Sony_Xperia_ZAs we’ve come to expect from Sony, the Xperia Z is a beautifully designed and a very high quality smartphone. Released in early 2013, Sony have enlisted the help of their Bravia TV engineers to ensure the full HD hi-resolution screen offers superb clarity and vivid colour. Here’s a low down on some of the best features of the Sony Xperia Z.

Sleek and stylish, the Xperia Z is made from glass fibre polyamide (the same stuff you find in cars) and durable tempered glass and comes complete with shatter-proof film on the front and back. As well as it’s good looks, the Xperia Z is extremely robust thanks to its tough frame, its water resistance when submerged for up to 30 minutes or sprayed with water jets and it’s resistance to dust and scratches.

The 5-inch touch screen has a 1920 x 1080 display which gives it a very decent 441 pixel per inch density. Despite the generously sized screen, the Xperia Z handset is still slim measuring just 7.9mm thick and it weighs in at 146 grams.

On the technical side of things the Xperia Z runs on the latest Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2 operating system and packs in the super-fast Snapdragon S4 Pro 1.5GHz quad-core processor which means that it’s no slouch in terms of operating speed and loading up apps and web pages. It also comes with an ‘intelligent’ battery where it will cleverly shut down apps which are heavy on battery use when your screen is off to conserve battery life and will power the apps back up again when you use your phone again.

The Xperia Z’s 13-megapixel rear camera (it also has a front facing 2-megapixel camera) shares similar technology with some of Sony’s leading cameras and features HDR (High Dynamic Range) which means it can take sharp and clear photos in any light including very strong daylight. It essentially will take several pictures at different exposures and will layer them to create the perfect photo. The Xperia Z also uses HDR for video recording so you don’t need to worry about the light conditions affecting your filming. The Superior Auto camera setting makes capturing superb quality images simple as it automatically will use the optimal settings including one of the 36 different scene settings and image processing technology. It also has a Burst mode so you can shoot pictures at 10 frames per second.
