Wearables are one of the hottest trends in the gadget market right now. As technology progresses, we’ve seen a rise in more innovative wearables which include smartwatches, fitness and heart monitors and of course Google Glass. Google have recently announced a new wearable concept called Google Wear. We take a look at what this means for future wearables not only from Google itself but other technology partners who will be working alongside them.
Google Wear will be hitting stores this summer with their new wearable gadget operating system Android Wear. Android Wear features Google’s latest wearable technology which has been tailor-made specifically with smartwatches in mind. Instead of being an extension of your mobile phone like the Samsung Gear smartwatches, Google’s Android Wear has been designed to help you do all those important little things you need to get done when you’re on the go such as checking your diary, finding directions, booking a restaurant and looking up information. It will also interact with your smartphone to keep you updated with your notifications and you’ll also be able to use it to send texts and emails.
One of the great advantages of Android Wear is that it will be fully integrated with Google Now and the OK Google voice search which means that if you want to know the weather forecast or where your nearest Italian restaurant is or look up some flight times, then you can find out what you need to know in seconds without having to get your mobile phone out. It can also be used to make notes, arrange appointments and will include fitness features such as a pedometer and distance tracker.
Google have announced that they are working with Samsung, LG, Motorola and HTC as well as fashion brand Fossil and that watches which feature the new Android Wear will be with us as early as this summer. Motorola have disclosed that they will be launching their Moto 360 smartwatch in the next few months. The high-end Moto 360 smartwatch features a round wrist watch design and will run on the Android Now platform and will be launched in the USA initially with plans to be available globally later this year.
LG have also been working on a new smartwatch the LG G watch which is expected to be available in the next few months. Also featuring Google’s Android Now, the G watch is anticipated to include a square-faced design and will be priced to make it accessible to a wider audience which could see the smartwatch market really start to take off.
