And the Smartphone You’re Getting for Christmas Will Be…?

6So we may only be in August but in the mobile phone world we’re already planning for Christmas! There are lots of exciting new smartphones to be unveiled between now and then so here’s a look at the main contenders to top this year’s Christmas list.

iPhone 6

If you’re already an Apple devotee then the new iPhone is no doubt right up there on your wish list. Due to be launched at a special event on the 9th September, if all the reports are correct we will be seeing two iPhone 6 models which are thought to feature a 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch screen respectively. The smaller of the two should be available to buy sometime in September and it’s thought that the larger 5.5-inch iPhone 6 will be hitting the stores in November in good time for Christmas.

Samsung Galaxy Note 4

Another smartphone expected to make its debut in September, the phablet-sized Galaxy Note 4 may feature an impressive 5.7-inch screen and also boast water and dust resistant properties like it’s smaller sibling the Samsung Galaxy S5. Available in 4 colours, we’re expecting it to come with a 16-megapixel camera and 3GB of RAM.

Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini

Coming very soon is Samsung’s latest pocket-friendly smartphone, the Galaxy S5 Mini. The S5 Mini is thought to offer a 4.5-inch display (also dust and water resistant) as well as the heart rate monitor and fingerprint scanner seen on the original S5.

Sony Xperia Z3

Another September release will be the new flagship premium Xperia Z3 smartphone. The Z3 will be unveiled on September 3rd and will be packed with premium features and specs. Powerful yet fairly compact, the Z3 offers a 5.15-inch screen, a 20.7-megapixel rear-facing camera and a powerful Snapdragon 801 3.1GHz processor together with 4GB of RAM. There’s also speculation that Sony will be unveiling a new SmartWatch, the SmartWatch 3 around the same time.

BlackBerry Passport

You’ve guessed it, the latest premium smartphone from Canadian phone maker BlackBerry will also be launching in September. The square-shaped Passport handset is aimed at business users who prefer a hardware QWERTY keyboard but require all the latest smartphone apps and software. The BB Passport will come with a 4.5-inch display with a resolution of 480 pixels per inch and the aforementioned QWERTY keyboard which is fully one-touch enabled.

LG G3 Stylus & LG G3 Prime

Two variants of LG’s popular G3 smartphone are expected to launch next month, the LG G3 Stylus and the LG G3 Prime. It’s thought that the G3 stylus could feature a larger screen than the original G3 whereas the G3 Prime will be a souped-up top end premium smartphone complete with a 5.5-inch QHD display and a 13-megapixel rear facing camera.
