The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 has arrived. After the difficulties with the last model, there has perhaps been even greater anticipation for the latest version of the ‘phablet’ big screen phone that comes with a stylus and is aimed at people wanting to get things done.
The Galaxy Note 8 comes with Android 7.1.1 Nougat and has a 6.3 inch HD ‘infinity’ screen which matches the edge to edge design first seen in the Galaxy S8 phones. It has a dual 12 megapixel camera on the back and comes with biometric security options including facial recognition, fingerprint and iris scanning.
The Note’s screen is 0.1 inch bigger than the S8 Plus, but the profile is slightly less rounded to make it easier to use the stylus, which slots into the phone when not in use.
One of the stand-out features for the new phone is the introduction of a dual-camera system, which is a first for Samsung. The Note 8 has two 12 megapixel cameras, one with a two-times zoom and the other with a wide-angle lens. This is similar to the iPhone 7, but Samsung’s system is the first to use image stabilisation for both cameras.
The new S Pen stylus is one of the key features of the Note series and the enhancements make it feel natural like writing on the screen. There are new tools too, like being able to create a GIF from your doodles.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 has 6GB of RAM, 64GB of storage and comes with a microSD card slot for adding more. It also launches with Bixby, which is Samsung’s new digital assistant.
Overall, the new Note is a powerful, big screen phone ideal for serious use and great for photos with the dual cameras.
